PEX, an acronym for crosslinked polyethylene is a long flexible and reliable material that maintains its integrity as it bends to the needs of your plumbing project. This not only saves us time on labor (and your money) but also prevents pitting, scaling, corroding, and leaking.
There are two main types of PEX pipes: PEX with an oxygen barrier and PEX without.
PEX with an oxygen barrier is typically either red or white, and is used for heating systems – as it is not rated for drinking, potable water. PEX without an oxygen barrier is designed for drinking water, and is red, blue, and white (to allow us to color code the hot and cold water lines). It is important to point out that the color of our piping does not signify any difference in the material’s rating. Red pipe can be used for cold water, but by following the color-to-temperature model we make present and future installation more intuitive.
